PLANNING

A core aspect of the program is allowing the girls to learn about the African origins of different dances that have evolved over time to what they see now. During each workshop students will have 30 minute sessions to learn about the origins of different African dances that are the origin of many popular dances.

STRATEGY

Dance Village Lab

The dance village lab is a time for the students to work on their own choreography.

During the second half of each session will be dedicated to the students creating their own choreography. This is a time that allows the girls to synthsize what they have learned and what they what to express through dance.

Regional dance language learning: African dances have differ by region. As the students learn about how the different African dances change by region they will be able to observe how in the New York and the larger United States how dances change by region
Dancing with a purpose: Traditional African dances have a variety purposes. As the girls learn how to do these dances they will be able to identify how the movements of the body are important to convey specific information.
